Seattle Celebration – Pride in Industry and Agriculture
Under the leadership of Namita Khandelwal (President, NACHA Washington Chapter), Seattle’s parade highlighted Chhattisgarh’s dual contributions to India – as the home of the 🏭 Bhilai Steel Plant, a symbol of industrial progress, and as the 🍚 “Dhan Ka Katora” (Rice Bowl of India), representing agricultural strength.
The float featured a striking “Dhaan ke Katora” display, while NACHA members performed the traditional Karma dance in colorful attire. Visitors also enjoyed Chhattisgarhi cuisine and crafts in the India Pavilion, including Thetri, Bidiya, Chawal Papad, Airsa, Rajgira Ladoo along with Dhokra art, Teak wood carvings, and Kosa silk fabrics.
Quote from Namita Khandelwal:
“It was an honor to showcase Chhattisgarh’s pride – from Bhilai Steel to our rice heritage, from Karma dance to Dhokra art and Kosa silk. Our goal was to bring a true slice of Chhattisgarh to Seattle and highlight the richness of India.”
Toronto Celebration – Tribal Traditions on a Global Stage
In Toronto, the parade was conducted under the leadership of Pankaj Agrawal (President, NACHA Canada Chapter) as part of the India Day Parade organized by Panorama India in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Toronto.
